BIOCHEMICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES IN IRRADIATED YEAST
The effects of radiation and of centain radiomimetic substances on biochemical and physiological functions in the intact yeast cell are discussed. Mechanisms of radiation effects on yeast and factors effecting radiosensitivity are examined. The relationship of metabolic cycles to cellular structure is considered. It is pointed out that some of the radiation effects on cells may result from interaction with structural elements rather than with enzymes directly. The influence of a statistical effect in results of studies on the radiosensitivity of biological substances is discussed. (C.H.)
