Doppler shifts with gas backing

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4399239
From 5th symposium on the structure of low medium mass nuclei; Lexington, Kentucky, USA (26 Oct 1972). See CONFThe Doppler shift attenuation method for measurements of mean lives of nuclear states is discussed for several experiments in which nuclei recoil in a gas; thus, depending on the gas pressure used, mean lives from a few picoseconds up to nanoseconds can be measured. Iron- 55, oxygen-17, fluorine-17, and calcium-44 are considered. (JFP)
