Out-of-plane limit couples of nozzles in cylindrical vessels or branch pipes in tee connections
From 2nd international congress for pressure vessel and piping technology; San Antonio, Texas, USA (1 Oct 1973). See CONF731003-P1. A lower bound to an out-of-plane limit couple applied to the nozzle of a nozzle- cylindrical vessel attachment (or branch-pipe tee connection) is determined. Using the limit couple as an objective function, a lower bound is found by maximizing the couple over a statically consistent stress field subject to inequality constraints imposed by the material yield condition. The limit couple thus formulated has been calculated for a wide range of geometric parameters. The results are valid for all diameter ratios, applicable to both nozzles in cylindrical pressure vessels and branch pipes in piping systems. (auth)
