Up to now the case of finite nucleon-nucleon correlation length for pion- nucleus interactions has only been treated in a phenomenological way by multiplying the zero-range limit term by a phenomenological constant which is fitted to the experimental data. It turns out that this constant is very close to one, and this fact was taken as strong evidence for the importance of short- range nuclear correlations. Calculations are reported which show that this is to be expected. The numerical importance of a nonzero correlation length becomes negligible mainly due to the smallness of the s-wave scattering length.
