Thesis.<>29:004762From surfaces and interfaces of glass and ceramics symposium; Alfred, New York, USA (27 Aug 1973). The thermodynamics of nonequilibrium conditions in a solid liquid-- vapor system are discussed. Spreading and subsequent pull-back phenomena in wetting studies are explained by dynamic interfacial tension. Such phenomena play a role in the initialparticle arrangement and solution- precipitation stages of liquidphase sintering. Results of sessile-drop experiments and permeation studies are reported.
