A review with 65 references analyzing the possibilities of ine utilization of nuclear reactors as a source of radiation during chemical processes is given. Depending on the type of irradiation, in the active zone of the nuclear reactor, there form two methods for direct utilization of the radiation for chemical synthesis-chemonuclear and nuclear-chemical. Examples are reported of these processes that were carried out by one of these methods: oxidation of nitrogen, synthesis of hydrogen cyanide, hydrazine, ozone, decomposition of carbon dioxide, synthesis of ethylene glycol, phenol, and other processes. In connection with increased utilization of nuclear reactors, the feasibility and desirability of the production of chemical substances using reactor irradiation is discussed. (JPRS)
