The general engineering and economical problems of chemonuclear processes are reviewed. The processes discussed include, in particular, the synthesis of the varioUs oxides of nitrogen, and preparation of hydrazine, ethylene glycol and phenol, representing cases with the greatest possibility for successful fabrication on an industrial scale. The items reviewed include cost estimates for the specific cases, the factors governing the yield per unit of the absorbed radiation dose and decontamination of the finished product. The problems of the low-temperature cracking and polymerization methods are also presented, together with a listing of the currently existing chemonuclear installations. (34 references). (TTT)
