No break power supply for nuclear reactors

Certain essential loads such as coolant pumps and instrumentation require no break power supply to avoid mostly damage and from safety considerations. The necessity for the no break power supply is discussed. Design aspects of no break power supply system for 100 MW Thermal Research Reactor at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay are described, The system comprises diesel generators, stationary battery, and motor generator sets in addition to the public utility power supply. The system for the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP) and improvements in the system for Madras Atomic Power Project (MAPP) are highlighted. (auth)
