The research during the year included new experimental and theoretical work on nuclear reaction mechanisms, nuclear polarization, and studies of nuclear structure. The principal equipment employed to carry out this research were the AEC-owned 5.5MeV and EN Tandem Van de Graaff accelerators and the on-line IBM 1800 Computer System housed in the Rice University-owned T. W. Bonner Nuclear Laboratories. New understanding was obtained during the year on problems of neutron physics, multiparticle breakup, nuclear structure, nuclear theory, and certain nuclear applications to medicine. (auth)
