The /sup 24/Mg(/sup 7/Li,t)/sup 28/Si reaction was studied at bombarding ener gies of 12, 16, 19, and 20 MeV. Angular distributions of the outgoing tritons were analyzed using FRDWBA calculations. The most interesting results concern the weakness of the transitions to all known members of the K /sup pi / = 0 /sup +/ ground state band. On the other han d the 0/sup +/ state at 6.65 MeV is strongly populated. The results are discussed in terms of the SU(3) model. The hindrance in the transi- tions to the g.s. band of /sup 28/Si may be due to the change of the deformation sign from prolate to oblate between /sup 24/Mg and / sup 28/Si. The 0/sup +/ state at 6.69 MeV in /sup 28/Si is then the band head of the prolate band in this nucleus. (auth)
