A rigorous method is proposed for calculating the spatial distribution of the potential of a spatially periodic electrostatic field in the gap between two planar strip lattices and for periodic structures with cylindrical symmetry. A computer is used to calculate and plot equipotential lines and the variation of the potential in the gap between structure found by rigorously solving the problem can differ appreciably (by up to 20%) from the values found from approximate solutions in which the rigorous boundary conditions are replaced by sinusoidal distributions of the potcntial in the planes of the lattice strips.
