Peripheral lymphocytes in two cases with Bloom syndrome, one case with ataxia-telangiectasia, two cases with Fanconi anemia and three control cases were incubated for 52 hours using the s or irradiation were given using the experimental /sup 137/Cs unit. When the frequency radiated lymphocytes was calculated, the value was higher in cases with chromosomal breakage syndromes than that in the control cases. The rates of deletion per cell in the Bloom syndrome (150 cells in 2 cases), ataxia-telangiectasia (100 cells in 1 case), and Fanconi anemia (150 cells in 2 cases) of l0 rads-irradiated lymphocytes were 30 plus or minus 0.028, 0.02, and 0.059 plus or minus 0.007, respectively. The rates of dicentrics and rings were 0.0l5 plus or minus 0.007, 0.010, and 0.026 plus or minus 0.00l, respectively, which were higher, as compared with 0.0l5 plus or minus 0.007 of deletion rate and 0 of dicentrics and rings rates in normal cases (150 cells in 3 cases). In addition. deletion rate per cell in the Bloom syndrome (175 cells in 2 cases), ataxia-telangiectasia (l00 cells in 1 case) and Fanconi anemia (l03 cells in 2 cases) of 100 rads-irradiated lymphocytes were 0.l45 plus or minus 0.007, 0.180 and 0.259 plus or minus 0.013, which showed higher value than 0.130 plus or minus 0.010 of normal cases (150 cells in 3 casesK. However, there was statistically no significant difference between abnormal and normal cases. the rates of dicentrics and rings per cell in three abnormal cases were 0.345 plus or minus 0.049, 0.260 and 0.315 plus or minus 0.032, respectively. In normal cases, it was 0.073 plus or minus 0.011. Therefore, there was a significant difference between both cases. The rates of breaks per cell per rad in chromosome-type were 0.0071 plus or minus 0.0036 in the Bloom syndrome (325 cells), 0.0055 plus or minus 0.0025 in ataxia telangiectasia (200 cells), and 0.0l03 plus or minus 0.0016 in Fanconi anemia (253 cells), respectively. The level of significant difference was below 1% between those and control cases (300 cases) which was 0.0025 plus or minus 0.005. (Japan)
