Freezing and thawing in presence of non-ionic detergents, before and after irradiation, failed to demonstrate latency associated with lysosomal hydrolases of the muscle of Bombay duck (Harpodon nehereus). However, there was increased activity of lysosomal enzymes in the drip obtained from the muscle of this fish following irradiation or freezing. Treatment of muscle with sodium tripolyphosphate reduced the levels of lysosomal enzymes released into the drip. Preliminary evidence is also presented for the presence of inhibitors of cathepsin and BETA -glucuronidase in the fish. (auth)
