X-ray examination of powder samples obtained by thermal decomposition of W(CO)/sub 6/ showed that tungsten carbide with a facecentered lattice phase is formed at 400 to 600 deg C. At 700 deg C and higher, pure tungsten is formed also. Lattice constants are tabulated for temperatures from 400 to 800 deg C. (TTT)
