KINETICS OF THE OXIDATION OF CHROMIUM CARBIDES (in Russian)

The kinetics of oxidation of powder and massive specimens of chromium carbides were investigated. It is found that the initial oxidation temperature for all three specimens of powdered carbides is 700 deg . Massive specimens of Cr/sub 3/C/sub 2/ and Cr/sub 23/C/sub 6/ are stable at 800 to 1000 deg ; Cr/sub 7/ C/sub 3/ oxidizes at 800 deg . Oxidation of powdered Cr/sub 3/C/sub 2/ at 800 to 1000 deg obeys the parabolic law, Cr/sub 7/C/sub 3/ the logarithmic, and Cr/sub 23/C/sub 6/ the parabolic at 800 deg and the logarithmic at 900 deg and 1OOO deg .
