Thesis. The lifetimes of the 272- and the 402-keV levels in polonium- 215 were measured with the following results: T/sub 1/2/ (272) = (195 plus or minus 15) X 10/sup -12/ sec and T/sub 1/2/ (402) = (66 plus or minus 11) x 10/ sup -12/ sec. The thus d erived M1 and E2 transition probabilities can be explained within the framework of the core excitation model. For Rn 219, the multipolarity was determined from the measured conversion electron spectra, which results in the necessity of revising all spin excited states determined so far. The measured lifetimes in Rn 219 are: 14.4 keV:T/sub 1/2/ = (87530) x 10/sup -12/ sec and 4.4 keV: T/sub 1/2/ = (1.541.3) x 10/sup -9/ sec and imply collective properties of these nuclear states.
