Study of a level scheme for $sup 219$Rn (in French)
Thesis. The level scheme of /sup 219/Rn was studied using interval conversion spectrometry, alpha - gamma and gamma -- gamma coincidence methods, and alpha - gamma angular correlation methods. It is demonstrated that, in spite of the results obtained, the establishment of a level scheme poses many difficult problems. No information is available on the ground-state spins of either /sup 219/Rn, its parent, /sup 223/Rn, or its daughter, /sup 215/Po; an d there is little hope that an experiment could be performed with /sup 219/Rn which would provide this fundamental information for the construction of a level scheme. Up to an excitation energy of 450 keV, all the levels have splns which differ by no more than 1 unit. There is no indication of any rotatlonal band, and no model is available for postulating configurations. A rotational band with particle--vibration coupling with a parity opposite to that of the ground state might be sought in the energy range above 450 keV, e.g., the 446.7 (--), 491 (-- ), 541.7 (--), and 594.7(--) levels. Unfortunately, the current state of experimental data does not allow either the presence or the absence of such a rotational band to be confirmed. alpha emission probabilities are of little help. It might be considered that the alpha transition to the 158.7 keV level occurs preferentially; nevertheless, this concept assumes a continuity in the model between the initial state of /sup 223/Ra and the final state of /sup 219/ Rn, and it is this continuity which is missing.
