The emitting substance for thermionic converters with a nuclear fuel in the interior and at one side some empty spaces open for the escape of gaseous fission products is characterized by the fact that a small perforated metal plate is mounted in the wall of a collection chamber connected by a drawing-off tube for the fission gases. This plate is provided with a perforated membrane slowing down the speed of the gas current between the position of the fission gas exit and the drawing-off tube of the same material as the emitting substance.
