From national topicnl meeting on mathematical models and computational techniques for analysis of nuclear systems: Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA (8 Apr 1973). In mathematical models and computational techniques for analysis of nuclear systems. Starting from the integral transport equation, the neutron balance relations for different collision probability concepts are derived. Consequences of approximations in the spatial distribution of the source density as well as in the angular distribution of currents at interfaces are discussed from a physical point of view. In addition to the classical application of collision probability methods to reaction rate calculations in lattices, the multidimensional overall reactor calculation by collision probability methods is reviewed. Techniques for the evaluation of the respective transmissionescape- and collision probabilities are presented. 20 references. (auth)
