Production and metallurgy of refractory and reactive metals

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4364662
The advantages of refractory-metal melting by electron beams are noted. Discussions are also included on the effects of melting rate on properties of liquid refractory metals, carbon -oxygen reactions in refractory metals, removal of gases from these metals, degassing rates, and electron beam refining of metals. Data and information are included on refining of specific refractory metals such as V, Nb, Ta, Mo, Th, W, and Ti. (20 flgures, 27 references) (JRD)
