Thesis. A method for the nondestructive determination of the burnup state of reactor fuel elements is described. By gamma spectroscopic analysis, besides the fission producte, the activity of a fuel with an added activated isotope is measured. The activable isotope is not a fission product but has a large activation cross section and a sufficientiy long half-life. The separation of the activated isotope from the fuel and fission products formed is not necessary after irradiation. From the activity, the fluence can be determined to which the isotope and simultaneously the fuel were exposed. The isotopes useful for the burnup determination are described. (GE)
