Estimation of dose and dose commitment to the bladder wall from a photon emitter present in urine

In Health Physics Division annual progress report for period ending July 31, 1973. Computer calculations were made of the radiation dose to the bladder wall from photons of various energies emitted by 12 radionuclides in the urine. The effects of urinary output and number of -voids per day on the dose received by the bladder wall were also calculated. Results of the study suggest that the dose to the bladder wall may be significantly reduced if the fluid intake of the patient can be increased throughout the period of radionuclide excretion and that a further reduction may be secured if the radionuclide is administered when the bladder is approximately half full.
