Ionization measurements with streamer chambers

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4359792
In streamer chamber technology. Previous attempts to relate streamer density to ionizing power at minimal high-voltage pulse delay are discussed. An experiment designed to measure the sensitivity of streamer density to ionizing power at pulse delays of 20 mu sec is reported. Tracks of positive and negative particles at 1120 and 1400 MeV/c were photographed in a Ne- He streamer chamber filled with 90% Ne- 10% He, on Kodak 2485 and SO340 film at f/2. Streamers were counted on a fiducial length of 73 cm. The overall width of the streamer density distribution was about 12%. However, predicted differences in ionizing power of up to 25% were not observed. (auth)
