Laser radiation reflection by a dense plasma (in Russian)
Results are presented of an experimental investigation of reflection of laser radiation by a plasma. The latter is produced by focusing plane-polarized radiation from a neodymium laser ( lambda = 1.06 mu ) on the surface of targets with various atomic numbers, the radiation flux varying between 5 x 10/sup 10/ and 5 x 10/sup 12/ W/cm/sup 2/. With fluxes exceeding approximates 10/sup 12/ W/cm/sup 2/ an anomalously rap id decrease of the reflection coefficient is observed. A line with a wavelength lambda = 0.53 mu appears in the spectrum of the radiation reflected back into the solid angle of the focusing lens. This line corresponds to the second harmonic of the radiation incident on the target. A ruby laser ( lambda = 0.69 mu ) synchronized with the neodymium laser and with its probing radiation focused onto the same focal spot, is employed for measuring the reflection coefficient at another wavelength. The resuits obtained are discussed. (auth)
