RELATIVE BIOLOGICAL EFFECTIVENESS OF ALPHA-RADIATION WITH THE BROAD BEAN ROOT (VICIA FABA) AS A TEST SYSTEM
Killing of the broad bean root was used as a test system to determine the relative effects of alpha -particies from radon and its daughters with Co/ sup 60/ and radium gamma -radiation. The LD/sub 50/ for gamma -rays was 335.1 plus or minus 11.0 rads, which was taken as unity. The LD/sub 50/ dose of alpha -radiation was 56.9 plus or minus 7.5 rads, which gives an RBE for alpha -particles of 5.52 plus or minus 0.41. (auth)
