Testimony was first presented on the inexhaustible enengy source of the Sun used for generation of electricity in central power stations. Now the witnesses discussed the harnessing of the power of the Sun for heating and cooling. Prof. George Lof, director of Solar Energy, Applications Laboratory of Colorado State University, the first speaker at these hearings says that although the technology is still in the experimental stages, the heating and cooling of buildings by solar energy is technically feasible and is closely approaching economic viability''. Dr. Lof and Dr. James Comly were the witnesses presenting information on June 7, and Walter A. Meisen, Fred S. Dubin, and Ralph J. Johnson presented statements on June 12, 1973. Additional information for the record is presented from sixteen statements by representatives from government agencies, utilities, universities, engineering firms, architectural firms, homebuilders, and comfort cooling companies.
