Determination of lead using charged particle activation analysis

Journal Article · · Anal. Chem., v. 46, no. 3, pp. 395-398
OSTI ID:4350034
BS>Trace analysis methods were studied using the following nuclear reactions: /sup 206,207/Pb(p,xn)/sup 206/Bi, /sup 206,207,208/Pb (/sup 3/He,xn)/ sup 207/Po, and /sup 206,207/Pb( alpha ,xn)/sup 207/Po. In addition, a rapid, nondestructive technique based on the reaction /sup 206/Pb(d,p)/sup 207m/Pb(t/sub 1 800 msec) was evaluated, and proton and deuteron activation were further examined for measuring /sup 204/Pb//sup 206/Pb ratios. Activation curves were determined for the reactions investigated and results of destructive and nondestructive determinations are presented. The detection limits are estimated at 0.01 ppM for proton and deuteron activation and at 0.1 and 0.2 ppM for /sup 3/ He and /sup 4/He activation, respectively. (auth)
