Natural and artificial radioactivity in the lower atmosphere (in French)

Journal Article · · Pollut. Atmos., v. 15, no. 59, pp. 273-279
OSTI ID:4348648
The origin of natural terrestrial radioactivity was studied including: radioactive element families; decay chains of Rn and Th; and radioactive half- lives of daughter products. Natural radioactivity due to the action of cosmic radiation was also considered. The production of artificial radioactive aerosols in the air as a result of nuclear explosions and nuclear reactor Operation (in the form of radioactive effluents) is reviewed together with spatial applications of nuclear energy. The nature of the artificial radioactivity in the lower atmosphere was studied. The effects of nuclear radiations on man are recalled. The currently used radioactivity, radiation, and radiation dose units are given. (FR)
