Crystal field splitting of S-state ions in crystalline TeO$sub 2$ and amorphous TeO$sub 2$--V$sub 2$$O$$sub 5$

The parameters of the spin Hamiltonian of Gd/sup 3+/ in TeO/sub 2/ single crystals are determined and the ESR spectra of polycrystalline TeO/sub 2/: Gd/sup 3+/ samples are compared with those of Gd/sup 3+/ ions on Te sites in amorphous TeO/sub 2/- V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ compounds. It turns out that the microenvironment of the tellurium ion in the amorphous samples is similar to that in crystalline TeO/sub 2/. Further ESR signals of Fe/sup 3+/ ions in amorphous TeO/sub 2/-V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ are discussed. (8 figur es) (auth)
