Room-temperature 50-mJ/pulse side-diode-pumped Yb:YAG laser

We report what to our knowledge is the highest output pulse energy to date, {approximately}50 mJ/pulse at 15-Hz pulse repetition frequency (PRF), for a diode-pumped Yb:YAG laser. At 60-Hz PRF the 1.03-{mu}m output beam quality was several times diffraction limited. {copyright} {ital 1995 Optical Society of America.}
