We determine the effective rescattering'' needed to explain the detailed features of the p-exchange amplitudes in pi N scattering in a Reggeized absorption model. We discuss in what way this differs from elastic scattering and whether or not Regge-Regge cuts can account for the difference. We consider the cases that the p-exchange amplitudes have nonsense-wrong-signature-zeros and compare with previouss work im which they did not. Also we consider whether adding a secondary trajectory provides an altenative solution to the diffculties with conventional absorption model treatments. (auth)
