THE SOLUBILITY OF RADIOLYTIC GAS IN THE HOMOGENEOUS AQUEOUS REACTOR CORE SOLUTION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4342905
The solubilities of deuterium and oxygen in the homogeneous aqueous reactor core solution are estimated from related published data. It is shown that within the accuracy of measurement, the dissolved gases in equilibrium with a gas phase containing a stoichiometric mixture of deuterium and oxygen will also be in stoichiometric proportion. The need to add excess oxygen to the core solution in order to minimize corrosion of stainless steel, is considered in relation to the concentration of dissolved oxygen remaining after catalytic recombination of deuterium and oxygen.
