Temperature regime of a steam-generating surface on departure from nucleate boiling (DNB)

An experimental study is described of the temperature fields of steam- generating tubes under conditions of departure from nucleate boiling (DNB). One of the questions considered is the validity of applying data obtained with short test tubes to real tubes which are usually longer. The opinion is expressed that the reduction in heat transfer rate found to accompany the rise in heat flux on DNB is attributable to the inequilibrium state of the flow and to shifting of the point of conversion of the liquid film into steam.
