Effect of system variables on departure from nucleate boiling in the Clinch River Breeder Reactor Plant steam generators

Conference ·
OSTI ID:7232979
A computer model of the Clinch River Breeder Reactor Plant (CRBRP) steam generator system is described and used to illustrate the effect of system design and operating parameters on evaporator nucleate boiling characteristics. Of primary interest in the study are the temperature differences at the point of departure from nucleate boiling (DNB) since they directly influenced cyclic stresses in the unit. System variables studied include plant power level, recirculation pump characteristics, and wall surface fouling. Temperature differentials are determined for the reference design conditions and these are compared with alternate approaches.
