Average monthly concentrations of /sup 144/Ce, /sup 95/Zr + /sup 95/Nb, / sup 137/Cs, /sup 90/Sr, and /sup 141/Ce in the atmosphere near the earth's surface and quarterly fallout of these isotopes in the USSR from 1967 to 1969 are reported. Average yearly levels of radioactive contaminants in the lower atmosphere and fallout of long-lived isotopes were approximately the same. The maximum /sup 137/Cs concentrations in the lower atmosphere after the nuclear explosions of both June 17, 1967 and Dec. 28, 1968 (1 mCi in the stratosphere) were reached in the summer of the following year and were approximately the same. Products from the explosions carried out in the southern hemisphere during July to Sept. 1968 were observed in the USSR during Aug. to Oct. Data obtained from airplane measurements showed a maximum beta activity after the Dec. 28, 1968 explosion in the upper troposphere (6--9 km) several months earlier than in the lower troposphere and in the air near the earth's surface.
