Improvements relating to selector valves for nuclear reactors
An improved selector valve is described for use in the gas passages of a reactor for connecting amy one of a number of inlet passages to an outlet passage. The valve body has a plane sealing surface in which is formed a ring of spaced inlet ports and a single central outlet port. The selector member comprises a block of graphite or ceramic material having a plane sealing surface in slidable engagement with the similar surface of the valve body. Means are provided for indexing the selector member rotationally relative to the valve body about the center of the ring of inlet ponts into successive stations at each of which the selector member covers a selected inlet port and the central outlet port, placing the two ports in communication through a radial groove formed in the plane sealing surface of the selector member. In use, with the outlet port connected to a source of suction the suction transmitted to the radial groove will impose sealing pressure between the sealing surfaces of the selector member and valve body.
