ANGULAR DISTRIBUTIONS FOR (p,p'), (p,d), AND (/cap alpha/,/cap alpha/') REACTIONS IN LITHIUM-7 AT MEDIUM ENERGIES (thesis)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4340705

A natural lithium target was bombarded by 31.8-Mev protons and the energy spectrum of the emitted particles taken every 10 deg from 10 to 120DE and at 140 and 160 deg . Proton peaks corresponding to the ground state and to the 4.61-, 6.6-, and 9.6-Mev levels of Li/sup 7/ were observed. Angular distributions for the 4.61- and 6.6-Mev levels of Li/sup 7/ were obtained and fitted with the directinteraction theory of Austern, Butler, and McManus. (Deuterons from the Li/sup 6/ ground state, 2.19-, and 3.57Mev levels have also been identified.) The ground-state sand 2.19-Mev deuteron angular distributions were fitted with the Butler pickup theory. In addition, lithium was bombarded with 47.1-Mev alpha particles and an angular distribution obtained for the inelastically scattered alpha particles leaving Li/sup 7/ in the 4.61-Mev state. This distribution was also fitted with the direct-interaction theory. Possible spins and parities were assigned the levels for which angular distributions were obtained. (auth)
