BS>Several experimental techniques, including changing the phase of the sample after irradiation, use of the freeze-thaw method, immediate extraction, and extraction as a function of time from the liquid or solid state were used to re-evaluate the radiative neutron capture organic yields of /sup 80/Br, /sup 80m/ Br, and /sup 82m+82g/Br a nd the /sup 82/Br isomeric transition organic yields in liquid cyclohexane and in carbon tetrachloride. It was concluded that under the conditions studied there was no observable isotope effect within experimental error between (n, gamma )-activated yields of /sup 80/Br, /sup 80m/Br, or /sup 82m+82g/Br, and (IT-)-activated /sup 82/Br. The lack of an (n, gamma ) isotope effect and the similarity of the organic yields by the two activation process suggest a mechanism or mechanisms involving caging reactions. (auth)
