The appearance of alpha tracks in cellulose nitrate irradiated with alpha particles from /sup 210/Po at an energy of 5.3 MeV is studied at different concentrations of NaOH, temperatures, and etching times. determined. Under these conditions cellulose nitrate can be used for activation analysis and the study of (n, alpha ) and ( gamma , alpha ) reactions. (JSR)
