Laves phase in the Hf--Mo binary system (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Metallofizika, no. 46, pp. 84-87
OSTI ID:4338250

By x-ray graphic, metallographic, and differential thermal analysis methods and by determination of the fusion temperature of the alloys, the structure of alloys of the Hf--Mo binary system was investigated in the region of existence of the Laves phases above 2040 plus or minus 20 deg C. It was shown that the compound HfMo/sub 2/ is polymorphic. The temperature for the transition of the high-temperature hexagonal modification of the MgNi/sub 2/ type to the low- temperature cubic MgCu/sub 2/ type depends on the composition and equals 1860 deg C in the (Hfmo/sub 2/ + Mo) region and 1780 deg C in the (HfMo/sub 2/ + Hf) region. T he region for the homogeneity of the Laves phases (60 to 65 at.% Mo) was displaced from the stoichiometric composition to the Hf side. (tr- auth)
