ON THE CROSS SECTION OF $pi$-MESON-NUCLEON INTERACTIONS AT HIGH ENERGIES (in Russian)

Calculations were made of the cross sectioms for inelastic interactions and nuclear opacity using the uniform smoothed nuclear model and based on experimental data from pi -meson interactions with graphite and lead at 0.9 to 34 Bev. The cross section magnitudes obtained, sigma pi = 33 plus or minus 4 mb, are in good agreement with the magnitudes obtained from direct measurements. It was observed that at energies above 1.9 Bev the cross sections of pi -meson interactions do not vary with energies up to 34 Bev. The data indicate that the nuclear and electromagnetic nuclear radii coincide when uniform smoothed distribution is used. (R.V.J.)
