PREPARATION OF BERYLLIUM FLUORIDE FROM BERYLLIA

Journal Article · · J. Inorg. and Nuclear Chem.

The preparation of beryllium fluoride from two samples of beryllia (calcined at 500 and 1400 deg C) by treatment with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride has been studied in relation to temperature and time of reaction. The optimum temperature is about 220 deg C, and the amount converted, which may be as high as 98.4 per cent, does not increase appreciably after 1 hr. X-ray analysis has given no evidence for solid solution formation between BeF/sub 2/ and unreacted BeO. (auth)
