IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO THE PRODUCTION OF SINTERED COMPACTS OF BERYLLIA

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4842788

A process is described for producing high-density sintered compacts from pure calcined beryllia powder. The process consists of cold-compacting a pure calcined beryllium oxide powder, heating the cold-compact to less than 1400 deg C for a pericd such as to cause substantially all the particles to be welded together, and then heating gradually or in stages to a sintering temperature of at least 1500 deg C. For example, the cold-compacted powder may be heated for 12 hours at temperatures between 1250 and 1400 deg C before sintering to 1500 deg C. (N.W.R.)
