Title: Chromosome breakage in human peripheral lymphocytes after radioactive iodine ($sup 125$I) treatment

Journal Article · · Radiat. Res., v. 57, no. 3, pp. 482-487
OSTI ID:4337882

Recent interest in the use of /sup 125/I (half-life 60 days) in prefcrence to /sup 131/I (half-life 8 days) in the treatment of thyrotoxicosis has prompted studies of possible undesirable extrathyroidal nadiation damage. The frequency of chromosome breakage in peripheral lymphocytes is one measure of this damage. A study in patients treated with /sup 125/I is described which shows as high a frequency of chromosome aberrations as is found after /sup 131/I therapy. The implications of this observation are discussed. (auth)
