DECAY OF $sup 152$Eu AND THE UNIFIED NUCLEAR MODEL
The radiations from Eu/sup 152/ (t/sub 1/2/ = 13 years) were investigated. X-- gamma , gamma -- gamma , and BETA -- gamma coincidence experiments were used to construct the decay scheme of Eu/sup 152/. The difference in level structure in Sm/sup 152/ and Gd/sup 152/ is evident from the experimental results. The highest excited state in Sm/sup 152/ is at 1417 kev and is likely fed entirely by L-capture. The level at 1114 kev in Gd/sup 152/ has the character I = 3 and is interpreted as due to the octupole vibrations. The ground state of Eu/sup 152/ has been assigned the spin I = 4; the branching ratios and the transition probabilities for the BETA groups and electron capture transitions have been calculated. The experimental results are consistent with the predictions of the unified nuclear model. (W.D.M.)
