>The construction of Simane nuclear power station is described from its planning stage to the present stage (98% completion). In 1967, it was decided to build a 460 MW(e) BWR power plant on Simane peninsula. To develop domestic technohogy, Hitachi Ltd. was selected as the main contractor. Components being made by Japanese makers and those being imported from abroad are shown. Methods and results of earlier investigations into environmental conditions around the site are also briefly reviewed together with acquisition of and compensation for the hand. Date and outline of the application and approval of necessary licenses are shown. The total construction cost is 42,681 million yen. The power generation cost is 2.85 yen/kWh. Outline and special features of the plant are explained in detail. Progress of construction works for reactor container, pressure vessel, jet pumps, turbine system and control rod drive mechanism are reviewed. On fuel elements, design, fabrication, quality control and fuel management are discussed generally. A code system for in-core fuel management, developed by Chugoku Electric Co. is illustrated. (JA)
