EVALUATION OF EXTRUDABILITY OF TITANIUM ALLOYS AND ALLOY STEEL
Technical Report

A total of 160 commercially pure and Ti alloy billets and 61 steel billets were extruded under various conditions on a 4000 ton press using 6.9 in. diameter billets. The extrudability of these metals is reported in terms of extrusion pressure as a function of reduction ratio, extrusion temperature and two lubrication practices. Effects of glass lubrication are compared with those of a practice employing graphite -- MoS/sub 2/ grease. A promising method of extruding Ti without lubrication was developed. (auth)
