Reaction pd $Yields$ pd$pi$$sup +$$pi$$sup -$ at 11.6 GeV/c

The coherent reaction pd yields pd pi /sup +/ pi /sup -/ is studied in pd collisio ns at 11.6 GeV/c. Strong DELTA /sup ++/ (1236) production together with some d pi /sup -/ enhancement (d/sup o*/) at approximates 2200 MeV are found in this reaction. The mass spectrum of the pure I = 1/2 combination p pi /sup +/ pi sup -/ shows a significant peak at approximates 1460 MeV. A double Regge fit describes the general feature of the M(p pi /sup +/ pi /sup -/) distribution, but does not reproduce the narrow peak. Comparison with a similar analysis at 7.0 GeV/c shows the same results, however the dot cross section decreases with incident energy. (auth)
