Diffraction dissociation in the reaction anti pp $Yields$ p anti p $pi$$sup +$$pi$$sup -$ at 7.3 GeV/c$sup 2$

An analysis of the reaction anti pp $Yields$ anti pp $pi$$sup +$ $pi$$sup -$ at 7.3 GeV/c, assuming that the final state is mainly due to two diagrams, shows the appearance of two resonances at 1460 and 1700 MeV/c$sup 2$. Assuming that all selected events are produced by diffraction dissociation, the cross section for diffraction dissociation of p or anti p in the anti pp $pi$$sup +$ $pi$$sup -$ final state is 1.2 mb compared with a total cross section for this final state of 3.0 mb.
