Title: ELASTIC CONSTANTS OF STRONTIUM TITANATE (SrTiO$sub 3$)

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D

The elastic constants of strontium titanate (SrTiO/sub 3/) were measured by the compound resonator method. Oriented quartz cylinders were used as drivers to excite the sample cylinders. The measured values for the compliance constanis are s/sub 111/ = 3.3 x 10/sup -13/ cm/sup 2/ dyne/sup -1/, s/sub 1122/ = -0.74 x 10/sup -13/ cm/sup 2/ dyne/sup -1/, and 4s/sub 1212/ = 8.4 X 10/sup -13/ cm/sup 2/ . dyne/sup -1/. The elastic behavior of SrTiO/sub 3/ is found not to be entirely analogous to that of BaTiO/sub 3/. (auth)
